Ogun Govt Summons Ado-Odo/Ota Council Boss, Lawmakers Over Suspension Saga

The Ogun State Government has invited the embattled Chairman of Ado-Odo/Ota Local Government, Alhaji Wasiu Adewale, and the councillors who suspended him, to an emergency meeting on Friday. The summons comes in response to the council’s decision to suspend the chairman for three months over allegations of financial misconduct, insubordination, and disregard for constituted authority. Confirming the development, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Dr. Rotimiolu Akinlesi, said the meeting was convened to listen to both sides and address the controversy.

During the council’s plenary on Thursday, Musediq Asalu, representing Ota Ward 2, moved the motion for the chairman’s suspension, citing persistent acts of negligence and misconduct. He alleged that the chairman had repeatedly ignored official requests for a detailed account of the local government’s income and expenditure, as required by Section 52 of Part V of the Ogun State Local Government Law 2000 (as amended).

According to Asalu, the legislative council had, on at least four occasions, demanded financial transparency from the chairman, but he allegedly refused to comply, offering either excuses or no response. The Ogun State Government has since stepped in to mediate the crisis, promising a fair and transparent investigation into the allegations.
