INEC Announces Final Phase of Voter Registration, Sets May–July Timeline
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced the resumption of the third and final phase of the nationwide Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise, scheduled to run from May 11 to July 10, 2026.
In a statement issued by the Chairman of its Information and Voter Education Committee, Mohammed Haruna, the commission said the exercise offers another opportunity for eligible Nigerians to register ahead of upcoming elections.
INEC explained that the second phase of the CVR was paused on April 17, 2026, to enable the cleanup of the voter register following its publication for claims and objections.
According to the commission, citizens who have attained the age of 18, as well as those who missed earlier phases, are encouraged to take advantage of the final registration window.
The commission also advised already registered voters seeking to transfer their registration, replace lost or damaged Permanent Voter Cards, or update their personal details to use its official online portal or visit INEC offices across states and local government areas.
As part of the process, INEC disclosed that the voter register will be displayed publicly from July 23 to July 29, 2026, to allow Nigerians verify their details and raise objections where necessary.
Reassuring citizens of its readiness, the commission stated that all arrangements have been put in place to ensure a smooth exercise, urging eligible Nigerians to participate actively in strengthening the country’s electoral system.
