Congo Seeks Nigeria’s Backing for UNESCO Top Job

The Republic of Congo has asked for Nigeria’s support for its candidate to lead UNESCO.

Congo’s Prime Minister, Anatole Collinet Makosso, made the request during a visit to Vice President Kashim Shettima at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.

The vice president received the delegation on behalf of President Tinubu.

Vice President Shettima assured the Congolese delegation that Nigeria would consider the request.

Shettima said Congo’s candidate, Firmin Edouard Matoko, has an impressive record and promised to convey the request to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for further consideration.

Prime Minister Makosso said Matoko is a veteran diplomat with over 30 years of service at UNESCO who has held several top positions, including Assistant Director-General for Priority Africa.

Makosso praised President Tinubu’s leadership at ECOWAS and the African Union, while extending condolences to Nigerians over the death of former President Muhammadu Buhari.
