Accord Party Crisis Deepens as Faction Picks Bamigbola for 2026 Osun Election

A faction of the Accord Party in Osun State has selected Clement Bamigbola as its governorship candidate for the 2026 governorship election.

Bamigbola emerged through a consensus decision at a factional primary election held in Osogbo, the state capital, which was attended by more than one hundred delegates drawn from local government areas across the state.

It would be recalled that five days earlier, Governor Ademola Adeleke was announced as the Accord Party’s candidate at a separate primary election conducted in Osogbo by the party’s National Chairman, Maxwell Mgbudem.

However, another faction of the party, led by Chris Imumolen, rejected Adeleke’s emergence, arguing that Maxwell Mgbudem is not the legally recognised National Chairman of the Accord Party.

While speaking after the exercise, the Chairman of the Electoral Committee, Olufemi Ogundare, who supervised the primary, said the process was conducted in line with directives from the party’s national leadership.

In his address, Bamigbola thanked party members for their support and expressed confidence in leading the party to victory in the forthcoming election.
