NPC Launches Digital Birth, Death Registration System in Ondo
As part of activities marking the 2026 World Population Day, the National Population Commission (NPC) has launched its fully digital birth and death registration exercise under the Electronic Civil Registration and Vital Statistics (E-CRVS) system.
The initiative is aimed at improving the efficiency, accessibility, and reliability of Nigeria’s civil registration process through the use of digital technology.
The Ondo State Director of the National Population Commission, Mr. Adeyemi Olamerun, said the exercise would help provide accurate population data needed for effective planning and sustainable development.
He noted that reliable demographic information remains essential for designing policies and programmes that address the needs of citizens, particularly young people, in line with this year’s World Population Day theme, “Realizing the Hopes and Aspirations of Young People: Today and for the Future.”
Also speaking at the event, the Federal Commissioner representing Ondo State, Her Excellency Pst. Mrs. Olukemi Iyantan, reaffirmed the Commission’s commitment to fulfilling its mandate of registering all births and deaths across the country.
Iyantan stated that strengthening the civil registration system would enhance national development efforts by ensuring that every citizen has access to proper documentation from birth to death.
She disclosed that ward registrars have been deployed across all 203 wards in the 18 local government areas of Ondo State to ensure effective implementation of the E-CRVS system.
The Federal Commissioner called on stakeholders, community leaders, and residents to support the exercise, assuring them that both rural and urban communities would be fully covered.
She further emphasized that the initiative would promote inclusiveness and ensure that no one is left behind in benefiting from accurate population records and the opportunities created through improved demographic planning.
