Hong Kong leader refuses to scrap extradition bill despite mass protest

Hong Kong leader, Carrie Laon says she will not scrap a controversial plan to allow extradition to Mainland China, despite mass protest.

Over the weekend, hundreds of thousands of people rallied against the bill which critics fear allows China to target political opponents in the region.

While addressing reporters this morning, she said the law was necessary and said human rights safeguards were in place.

Foreign Chinese state media said protests forces were behind the protests.
