Ekiti gov’t expresses resolve to implement anti-smoking in public law
The Ekiti state government has expressed its resolve to implement the anti-smoking law in public places signed into law in 2012.
The state governor, Dr. Kayode Fayemi gave the information at the ceremony organized to mark this year world no tobacco day held at the government house, in Ado Ekiti.
Fayemi who was represented by his special adviser on public health, Dr. Opeyemi Ogunsakin, regretted the poor awareness and attitude to the law of prohibition of smoking in public places in the state.
Also, speaking, a consultant gynecologist from Ekiti state teaching hospital, Dr. Deji Ajayi said it is necessary to increase sensitization of the general public and enforcement of the law.
He who warned smokers to desist from the act further stressed the reasons while people smoking and effects of tobacco smoking among the populace.
Ajayi advised the state government to initiate more effective campaign strategies to reach as many young people as possible.
