Nigeria’s Civilian JTF militia releases 900 child recruits
The United Nations say nearly 900 children held by a pro-government militia force fighting Boko Haram have been freed.
UNICEF disclosed that the children were released at a ceremony in the northeastern town of Maiduguri today.
The Civilian Joint Taskforce hinted that the move is part of its efforts to prevent the recruitment and use of children by the boko haram insurgents.
UNICEF chief in Nigeria, Mohammed Fall said efforts to reintegrate would continue until no child is left in the camp.
Fall said today’s freed children bring the number of total released to 1,727 children.
