Police Probe Alleged Assault of Eight-Month-Old Baby in Ogun School
The Ogun State Police Command has launched an investigation into the alleged indecent assault of an eight-month-old baby at a private school in the state.
The incident reportedly occurred on Wednesday, March eighteenth, at the school where the child’s mother, Gloria Umukoro, works.
According to the mother, the school had closed early for revision week, and she stayed behind to complete examination questions. She said the baby was left in the care of the school principal before the school director, Korede Afuye, later returned the child.
Umukoro explained that shortly after, she noticed wetness on the baby and initially assumed it was urine. However, she became alarmed minutes later when she discovered the child was bleeding. A colleague, who is a nurse, reportedly examined the baby and confirmed injuries around the anal region.
The mother alleged that the school director was the last person to handle the child before the injuries were noticed. She said she confronted him and insisted the matter be reported to the authorities.
Police spokespersons say the case has now been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department, specifically the Gender Unit, for further investigation.
Authorities say efforts are ongoing to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident, while the identity of the child is being protected.
