Tinubu to Finalise Appointment of Ambassadors Soon

President Bola Tinubu is set to conclude the long-awaited appointment of ambassadors to Nigeria’s foreign missions after months of diplomatic gaps.

The President ordered a “final cleanup” of the list of nominees, removing those who have died, retired, or become ineligible since the first submission to the Senate.

Sources say the screening and security checks were done months ago, but the list is being updated to reflect current realities.

This move comes over two years after Tinubu recalled all ambassadors from Nigeria’s 109 foreign missions as part of a major diplomatic review. Since then, most embassies have been run by chargés d’affaires with limited authority.

Officials admit that while this hasn’t directly caused any crisis, having ambassadors in place would strengthen Nigeria’s voice and improve communication with foreign partners, especially during sensitive moments.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Yusuf Tuggar, is expected to meet with the President today at the State House, possibly to finalise the list.

A Presidency statement is expected soon.
