Aiyedatiwa Pledges Proactive Disaster Prevention in Ondo State

Ondo State Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa says his administration is committed to preventing emergencies, especially flooding, through proactive measures to protect lives and property.

He made the remark while receiving a delegation from the National Emergency Management Agency, NEMA and the World Bank ahead of the flag-off of the Emergency Preparedness Response project in the state.

Aiyedatiwa said Ondo’s inclusion among the seven states for the project was due to its proactive stance on disaster prevention and not because it is the most disaster-prone state.

He described the long-standing sea incursion in Aiyetoro as a major problem and expressed confidence that the new approach would provide a lasting solution for affected communities.

NEMA’s Director of Planning, Research and Forecasting, Mr. Badele Onimode, said the project will involve hazard mapping, community sensitization, data collection, and training for residents.

World Bank representative, Francis Nkoka, said the institution will provide both financial and technical support to strengthen emergency preparedness and response in the state.
