MIMIKO RAISES CONCERN OVER BRAIN DRAIN IN NIGERIA’S HEALTH SECTOR

The former Governor of Ondo State, Dr. Olusegun Mimiko, has called for improved funding and better welfare packages for frontline health workers in Nigeria.

Dr. Mimiko made the call while delivering a public lecture titled Conqueror, Conquered and Consequences, A Discourse on Brain Drain, held at the Dome, Akure.

The public lecture was organized by the Bode Olajumoke Education and Hospitality Initiative to commemorate the 81st birthday of Dr. Bode Olajumoke.

In his lecture, Dr. Mimiko expressed concern over the alarming rate of brain drain in Nigeria, particularly in the health sector, describing it as a form of national bleeding.

He added that brain drain is a legacy of a conquered people, adding that the consequence is the loss of frontline professionals to Western nations.

The Governor of Ondo State, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, who was represented by his deputy, Dr. Olayide Adelami, congratulated Dr. Bode Olajumoke on his 81st birthday and described him as a beacon of development.

Chairman of the occasion, Chief Olugbenga Ale, and Chairman of the Planning Committee, Dr. Bode Ayorinde, described Senator Olajumoke as a symbol of patriotism and integrity.

The public lecture served as both a tribute and a timely call to action for stakeholders to address the root causes of brain drain and restore hope in Nigeria’s future.
