Female Lawyers Advocate Sex Education For Students in Ekiti

As part of the activities marking the Universal day for children, the International Federation of Women Lawyers (FIDA) in Ekiti State has taken sex education outreach to Secondary Schools in the state.

The women lawyers noted that the programme was part of its advocacy programme to bring sanity to the society.

Speaking at the venue of the programme at Fiyinfolu Comprehensive High School, Oke-Ayedun Ekiti, FIDA Chairman in the state, Adefunke Anoma charged the students to take their destinies in their hands regardless of the challenges and limitations facing them.

Anoma also called on parents and the Federal Government to support the campaign on sex education in schools.

Also speaking at the forum, one of the resource persons at the forum, Foluke Oyeleye spoke on relationship.

She maintained that the students are still children in accordance with the provisions of the law, adding that students are not yet capable of handling issues that arise from sexual relations.

Other speakers at the forum include Alhaja Baderinwa, Yinka Omodan and Lola Aluko who advised the students to make entrepreneurs part of their Education by being skillful in business and vocational Studies.

The trio posited that the consequences of engaging in sexual relationship at a tender age could destroy their future, while urging the students to maintain their “NO” to sex advances from the opposite sex.

The Female Lawyers also advised the students against criminal activities because of the legal implications on their careers and future.

FIDA nevertheless tasked males students at the forum to always respect the female students’ stand on issues relating to sex noting that whatever they do now may negatively ensnare them in the nearest future.
