Central African Republic moves to eradicate capital punishment
Lawmakers in Bangui have voted to totally abolish death penalty.
However, for the legislation to become law, president Faustin Archange Touadéra still has to issue it.
The law was passed by acclamation after the speaker of the national assembly made the announcement.
Rights group amnesty international has welcomed the decision as a good news and urged the president to assent to it.
Bangui residents have also largely welcomed the news.
The Central African Republic follows Chad in 2020 and Sierra Leone last year to ban capital punishment on the African continent in recent years.
Last Tuesday, Zambian president Hakainde Hichilema announced he asked parliament to consider removing the death penalty from the laws of the land.
