Ondo 2020 Election: Tribunal adjourns cases against Akeredolu to February 25
All parties involved in the petition filed by PDP and Eyitayo Jegede against the victory of Governor Rotimi Akeredolu at the October 10 governorship election have closed their cases.
At the resumed hearing today, the All Progressives Congress (APC) closed its case without calling any witness.
Counsel to the APC, Lateef Fagbemi told the tribunal that he would be relying on the evidences he had presented.
The 3rd and 4th respondents, Rotimi Akeredolu and Lucky Aiyedatiwa also closed their defence after calling only one witness.
The witness Dare Oketade, a lawyer by profession, identified his statement by his signature and adopted it as his witness statement before the tribunal.
He told the court during cross examination that the APC could not have left its national office empty after the judgement that sacked Adams Oshiomhole as national chairman.
Oketade said the national executive committee of the party acted within its powers to constitute the national caretaker committee headed by Governor Mai Mala Buni.
The witness also agreed that the constitution of Nigeria supersedes other constitutions.
Tribunal has adjourned to the 25th of February for the adoption of final written addresses.
Counsel to governor Akeredolu and Aiyedatiwa, Akin Olujimi said he had put in everything necessary in the defense of the petition.
Counsel to the APC, Lateef Fagbemi and counsel to INEC, Charles Edosomwan, said they have done everything possible to meet the petitioners’ case.
