UNICEF focuses on impact of climate change and COVID-19 on children
The United Nations Children’s Fund, UNICEF, says this year’s world children’s day is focusing on the impact of climate change and COVID-19 on children.
World children’s day was established in 1954 as universal children’s ’ay and it is to advocate children’s rights while urging people to ensure a better tomorrow for children.
The United Nations says parents, teachers and people from different walks of life play a crucial role in the celebrations.
This year’s celebration holds the world over today, November the 20th.
UNICEF executive director, Henrietta Fore, said the economic fallout from COVID-19 and the effects on government and households pose serious risks to the welfare of children.
The UNICEF 6-point action plan to protect children include education for all children, access to health and nutrition services, protecting the mental health of children, access to clean water, sanitation and hygiene.
Others are reduction in child poverty and supporting children and families living through conflict, disaster and displacement.
