Ekiti retirees protest non-payment of gratuities
Hundreds of Retirees in Ekiti State have protested non-payment of their accumulated gratuities by the state Government.
The retirees, under the banner of the Nigeria Union of Pensioners (NUP), came to the State Secretariat of the Union to register their grouse on certain policy of the State Government.
Two pensioners, Funke Agunbiade and Tunde Ogunrinde told Adaba FM that the State government announced that those who retired in the state from 2012-2014 should report at the Pensions’ Office with their Original pensions letters, Pensioners ID, passports photographs and their BVN numbers for their gratuities.
The duo maintained that they were briefed at the Pensioner’s office that the State government has introduced deduction of 25% from their gratuities contrary to former 10% some of them agreed upon which they said triggered the protest
NUP Chairman in the State, Ayo Kumapayi told Adaba FM that the State government did not contact them when they went on air to announce the development
The State Commissioner for information, Akin Omole when contacted denied the allegation adding that the move was not a punitive measure .
Omole further stressed that the development was introduced by the Bank that the state government contacted to help in offsetting the gratuities
