Ondo lawmakers urge government to introduce stiffer penalties for rapist
The committee has charged the ministry of women affairs and social development to install better strategies in combating increasing incidences of rape in the society.
During an oversight visit to the ministry, one of the committee members, Simeon Borokini wants them to create enough publicity to address the menace.
On her part, chairman of the committee, Favour Tomomewo noted that there is need for the ministry and the executive arm to work together in achieving a common goal.
In her remarks, state commissioner for woman affairs and social development, Titilola Adeyemi, said the ministry is concerned and disturbed by the increasing number of rape cases.
She explained steps being taken by the ministry to put an end to the problem.
She promised to brief the house on the outcome of the committee’s meeting with traditional rulers.
