Police arraign student for being in possession of Indian hemp

A student of the Federal University, Oye Ekiti, Ishola Oluwafemi has appeared before an Ado Ekiti chief magistrate court over alleged possession of Indian hemp.

Police prosecutor Johnson Okunade told the court that the student committed the offence on April 17 in Oye-Ekiti.

He explained that the defendant was caught on the campus with five wraps of Indian hemp by the university security officials who handed him over to the police.

The prosecutor urged the court to adjourn the case to enable him study the case file and present his witnesses.

The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charge.

Counsel to the defendant, Tunde Olayemi, urged the court to grant him bail with a promise that the accused person would not jump bail.

The trial magistrate, Adesoji Adegboye, granted bail to the defendant in the sum of 200,000 naira with one credible surety in like sum.

He however adjourned the case until May 24 for hearing.
