Tinubu Makes History as First Nigerian President in 66 Years to Receive Proposed UN Budget
President Bola Tinubu has been described as making history after receiving the proposed $14 billion United Nations budget for 2027.
The document, comprising seven volumes, was presented to the President at the State House in Abuja by Nigeria’s Permanent Representative to the UN, Ambassador Jimoh Ibrahim.
Ibrahim, who chairs the UN General Assembly’s Fifth Committee responsible for administrative and budgetary matters, said the presentation marked the first time in 66 years that a Nigerian President had received the proposed UN budget through the process.
He explained that the document was transmitted through the United Nations’ budgetary process before being presented to Tinubu, noting that Nigeria’s membership of the global body made the presentation significant.
The proposed budget outlines the UN’s planned expenditure for 2027, while the development highlights Nigeria’s involvement in the organisation’s budgetary affairs.
