Ondo Catholic bishop urges journalists to speak truth in face of oppression
The bishop of the catholic diocese of Ondo, his holiness Jude Arogundade has enjoined members of the pen profession to always speak the truth even in the face of oppression and provocation.
Bishop Arogundade gave the advice at this year’s world communication day holding at the sacred heart catholic church Akure.
He urged journalists to use their voice for the good of the common man especially during this electioneering process.
The clergy man said the men of the pen profession are revered in other countries and their voices are heard without intimidation.
He condemned the government of the day, the dwindling economy and the monetization of the political space.
He also used the occasion to call on Nigerians to make use of the opportunity at hand now and vote wisely.
The world communication day is celebrated yearly worldwide and this year’s celebration theme is listen with the ear of the heart.
Members of the Nigerian union of journalists, national association of women journalists were all present at the event.
