Two people die as crisis escalates in Ekiti

At least two persons have reportedly lost their lives while several others were injured in the crisis that erupted in Ire Ekiti, Oye Local Government area of Ekiti State.

Adaba FM’s Correspondent Tunde Akinlabi reports that the palace of the traditional ruler of the town Oba Adeleke Bobade was also set ablazed by the irate youths during the crisis.

When contacted, Police Public Relations officer in the State, Abutu Sunday confirmed the attack on the palace but said he has not been briefed if anyone died during the crisis.

Abutu added that he would speak to newsmen once the death of the two persons in the Crisis are confirmed.

Meanwhile, Community leaders in Ire-Ekiti, Oye Local Government area of Ekiti State have started appealing to youths in the town to sheath their swords in the interest of peace.

A former member of the House of Representatives, Bimbo Daramola who hails from the town, spoke with our correspondent in a telephone interview appealed to the residents and youths in the town to calm down and stop attacking security operatives and valuable property in the town.

He assured the youths that he has put arrangements in place to interface with other leaders in the community to ensure the situation is not degenerated out of control.

The Crisis occurred as result of the instructions given by the traditional ruler of the town, Oba Victor Adeleke Bobade who ordered the community to stay away from this year celebration of Ogun’ onire festival.
