DRC police warn protesting students to leave Kinshasa campus

Police in the Democratic Republic of Congo have given students until the end of Thursday to leave Kinshasa university campus and university hostels after violent clashes left one policeman dead and at least a dozen students injured.

Two days of protests were sparked by a near doubling of tuition fees.

A statement from the police said anyone still on campus after Thursday would be considered an infiltrator and an enemy of the people.

The Congolese president FĂ©lix Tshisekedi is due to meet a delegation of students at his next cabinet meeting on Friday to discuss the situation.
