Ondo students protest alleged killing of colleague by Amotekun corps official

Students of Rufus Giwa Polytechnic, Owo, have protested the death of an ND1 student from the department of Science Laboratory Technology, Folarera Ademola who was allegedly killed by an officer of the Amotekun corps.

The protest which started at the school gate in Owo was later taken to governor’s office in Akure the state capital.

The students, who defied the early downpour, marched to the Governor’s Office and placed the deceased corpse in front of the office.

The protesters gave the state government a 24-hour ultimatum to fish out the alleged officer and hand him over to the Police for prosecution.

They also asked the state government to take charge of the deceased’s burial and compensate the family.

Rufus giwa polytechnic Students’ Union President, Olorunda Oluwafemi, said the deceased was shot on June the 26th by an officer of the Amotekun Corps in front of his parents’ house.

However, the Amotekun Corps has shed more light on the incident that led to the death of the student.

A statement by the commandant, Amotekun Corps, Adetunji Adeleye says the deceased was hit by bullet when he was struggling to disarm an officer of the Corps during an operation.

The statement says men of the corps eventually overpowered the suspects, arrested and detained them at its office in owo while investigation continued.

The statement says it was Surprised to hear the news of the death of the injured suspect 11 days after the incident occurred.
