Ondo senator sues ex-deputy gov, seeks disqualification

Senator Nicholas Tofowomo has approached the Federal High Court sitting in Akure, the Ondo State capital, to seek the disqualification of Agboola Ajayi as the candidate of the Peoples’ Democratic Party in next year’s senatorial elections.

Tofowomo is currently holding the Ondo South senatorial seat and had participated in the PDP senatorial primaries for next year’s elections, but came second after Agboola Ajayi.

In the suit, Tofowomo is praying the court to disqualify Ajayi over alleged controversial academic records.

He cited section 66, subsection 1 (i) of the Nigerian constitution, 1999 as amended and section 29, subsections 5 and 6 of the 2022 electoral act.

Senator Tofowomo wants the court to determine if Agboola Ajayi did not present false information or forged certificates in his INEC Form EC9.

Tofowomo is praying the court to direct INEC and the PDP to substitute Agbola Ajayi’s name with his as the candidate of the latter for Ondo South senatorial election next year.
