Oyebanji Calls on Stakeholders to Stand Against Gender-Based Violence

Ekiti state governor Biodun Oyebanji has directed the state gender-based violence management committee to look into the allegation of sexual harassment of girls at the government special school, Ikere Ekiti.

Governor Oyebanji, while inaugurating the state management committee at the governor’s office in Ado Ekiti, called on all stakeholders to join efforts to stem the tide of gender violence in the state.

He directed the team to look into the alleged sexual assaults going on at the special school in Ikere, Ekiti.

The governor, however, assured the commitment of the present administration to zero tolerance of abuse of girl child in any form and gender equality.

The chairman of the GBVMC, who is also the wife of the governor, Dr. Olayemi Oyebanji, decried the incessant cases of gender violence in the state, calling on concerned stakeholders to join hands with the government in the fight against the menace.

She expressed that members of the committee would ensure that the state’s GBV prohibition law of 2019 is put into use.

The Commissioner for Women Affairs in the State, Mrs. Peju Babafemi, said that the government would not rest on its oars to ensure that the menace is reduced to
the minimum.
