One dead, 40 injured in South Africa as mine dam wall collapses

At least one person has died and dozens injured in central South Africa, in flooding caused by the bursting of a dam at a mine.

The water swept away houses and cars in the town of Jagersfontein, south-west of the free state capital of Bloemfontein.

People have fled their homes, with a sea of mud and water flowing in.

The town’s power supplies were cut off, as mud engulfed a substation.

Reports say some houses completely collapsed.

Rescue teams, including divers and helicopters, have gone to help.
