Osun Assembly Condemns Police Sealing of Amotekun Office

The Osun State House of Assembly has strongly condemned the sealing of the Amotekun operational office by the Nigerian Police Force.

The action comes after last week’s violent incident in Akinlalu, Ife North Local Government Area, where four people, including three siblings, were allegedly killed during a raid by operatives of the Osun Amotekun Corps.

Addressing journalists in Osogbo, the Speaker of the Assembly, Rt. Hon. Adewale Egbedun, expressed displeasure over the police action, describing it as unconstitutional.

According to him, the Amotekun Corps was established by law and cannot be shut down without due consultation with the state government or the legislature.

Rt. Hon. Egbedun described the move as ill-timed, especially at a period when security concerns are escalating in neighbouring states.

The Speaker warned that the ongoing probe must not be used as a smokescreen to undermine the operations of the state’s security network.

He therefore called for the immediate reopening of all Amotekun offices across Osun State.
