Liverpool Star Diogo Jota Reportedly Killed in Car Accident
In a tragic development, Liverpool forward Diogo Jota has reportedly died in a car accident alongside his brother, Andre Silva.
The incident occurred on the A-52 highway near Palacios de Sanabria, Spain.
According to a post on X by the Zamora Provincial Council, the two young men were travelling together when their vehicle veered off the road and was engulfed in flames.
Local firefighters from the Rionegro del Puente Fire Station responded to the scene, but both men were confirmed dead.
“Two young people have died in an accident on the A-52 (Palacios de Sanabria). The vehicle caught fire and the flames spread to the vegetation. They were 28 and 26 years old. RIP,” the council’s statement read.
Jota, 28, joined Liverpool from Wolverhampton Wanderers in 2020 and quickly became a fan favourite, playing a crucial role in the Reds’ FA Cup triumph in 2022 and helping the team to the EFL Cup and UEFA Champions League finals that same season.
Following the recent managerial change at Anfield, with Arne Slot replacing Jurgen Klopp, Jota contributed nine goals in 37 appearances as Liverpool secured the Premier League title last season.
The Portuguese international began his career at Pacos de Ferreira before earning a move to Atletico Madrid. After struggling for opportunities in Spain, he was loaned to FC Porto and later Wolverhampton Wanderers, where he helped the club win promotion to the Premier League. His move to Wolves became permanent in January 2018, and he went on to become one of their standout performers.
Fans, teammates, and football authorities across the world have begun to pay tributes to the talented striker and his brother, who also played professionally for Penafiel.
Liverpool FC and official authorities are yet to release an official statement regarding the incident.
