DR Congo names new government after 8-month delay

The Democratic Republic of Congo’s prime minister has announced a new cabinet.

The announcement comes eight months after President Felix Tshisekedi won an election, with around two thirds of positions going to allies of former President Joseph Kabila.

Tshisekedi defeated a candidate officially backed by Kabila.

But the opposition politicians said the result was rigged in a secret deal between Kabila and Tshisekedi’s camps.

They said the deal involved Kabila officially stepping down, but maintaining control.

The cabinet list released by prime minister Illunga Illunkamba comprises mostly people with little or no government experience.
