Zimbabwe plans to pull out of CITES

Zimbabwen president Emmerson Mnangagwa says the country is considering pulling out of the Convention on International Trade in endangered species to better guard its wildlife.

A CITES conference, bringing together delegates from more than 180 countries, will finish in the Swiss city of Geneva on Wednesday.

During the meeting, which began on 17 August, it was decided to maintain a ban on international trade in elephant ivory.

But, Botswana, Namibia and Zimbabwe had proposed that ivory from elephants in their region be traded.
