NNPC Extends N66 Per Litre Fuel Discount Till October 31, Says No Subsidy Restoration
The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited, NNPC, has extended its N66 fuel discount at its retail stations nationwide until October 31, 2026, as part of efforts to ease the impact of rising petrol prices on Nigerians.
The company disclosed this in a statement issued on Friday, October 9, by its Chief Corporate Communications Officer, Andy Odeh, in Abuja.
According to NNPC, the discount was initially introduced on October 1 to commemorate Nigeria’s 66th Independence Anniversary but has now been extended to provide additional relief to households and businesses amid rising global crude oil prices linked to the conflict in the Middle East.
The company, however, clarified that the initiative does not amount to a restoration of petroleum subsidy, stressing that it is a customer relief measure applicable only at NNPC Retail stations nationwide.
It also noted that the discount does not establish a uniform national pump price or change the market-based pricing framework for petroleum products.
NNPC reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring reliable fuel supply and working with the Federal Government and other stakeholders to reduce the burden of rising fuel costs on Nigerians.
The company urged the public to disregard claims suggesting that the discount represents a return to fuel subsidy, assuring customers of continued transparency in its pricing and customer relief initiatives.
