Flood Ravages Osogbo Communities, Residents Count Losses After Four Days of Rain

Several communities in Osogbo, the Osun State capital, are counting their losses after four days of heavy rainfall triggered flooding and erosion, damaging property in parts of the city.

The downpour has also taken over several streets, with floodwater flowing into residential areas and worsening erosion in some parts of the city.

Among the affected areas in the state capital are Ibu Amo in Aregbesola, Alafia Tayo Street in Ogooluwa, Oke Ayepe,oke baale-sasa road and baruwa area, among others.

Some residents, including Bukola Oladipo and joshua Awodokun, said the flooding damaged household belongings, while poultry farmers and other farmers also recorded losses as floodwater swept through their properties.

They appealed to the Osun State Government to urgently intervene and provide a lasting solution to the recurring flooding in the affected communities.

In a statement, Osun state Governor Ademola Adeleke commiserated with residents and families affected by the recent flooding in parts of the state, while urging residents to stop building on waterways and dumping refuse in drainage channels.

The governor also directed the state Special Task Force on Environmental Sanitation, to visit the affected areas, assess the environmental conditions contributing to the flooding and prepare a response plan.

Although no casualty has been recorded so far.
