Oyebanji Returns Old Cabinet Ahead of 2026 Governorship Election

Ekiti State Governor, Biodun Oyebanji, has submitted a list of commissioner-nominees to the State House of Assembly as part of efforts to reconstitute his cabinet, nearly four months after dissolving the State Executive Council.

The nominees, according to a statement signed by the Governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Olayinka Oyebode, are the same commissioners who served in the cabinet dissolved on August 10, 2025.

Their return, followed a unanimous decision by the leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and other critical stakeholders in Ekiti, who urged the Governor to retain the former team ahead of the June 20, 2026 governorship election.

The party leaders said that bringing in new commissioners with barely seven months to the polls could create internal friction and prove counter-productive, especially as the party hopes to approach the election as a united front.

Oyebode noted that the APC leadership, community leaders, and other key stakeholders had also been involved in the selection and appointment process of commissioners and other officials in 2023, working closely with the screening committee set up by the Governor.

Governor Oyebanji had, from the onset of his administration, emphasized that the party hierarchy and community leaders would play significant roles in appointments to ensure accountability and strengthen the link between government and the people.
