Ondo Police Warn Against Jungle Justice After Teen’s Death in Akungba
The Ondo State Police Command has cautioned residents against taking the law into their own hands following the death of a teenage boy in Akungba-Akoko.
Police Public Relations Officer, Olusola Ayanlade, in a statement, said the boy was allegedly beaten on September 20 after being accused of stealing cocoa pods. He later died in hospital.
Ayanlade confirmed that the main suspect has been arrested, while the case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Akure, for a full probe.
Commissioner of Police, Adebowale Lawal, strongly condemned the attack, urging citizens to always report crimes to the police rather than resorting to violence.
The Command assured that the investigation will be conducted thoroughly and professionally, while extending condolences to the bereaved family.
