Ibom Air Bans Passenger After In-Flight Assault Incident
Ibom Air has banned a passenger, Ms. Comfort Emmanson, after an incident on its Uyo–Lagos flight on Sunday.
The airline says the trouble began before take-off from Uyo when Ms. Emmanson refused to switch off her mobile phone despite repeated instructions.
In a statement on Monday, the airline adds that on arrival in Lagos, Ms. Emmanson allegedly attacked the lead flight attendant.
It says she also stepped on the attendant and pulled off her wig, while also smashing her glasses, and striking her with her footwear.
The passenger also reportedly slapped another cabin crew member and tried to grab a fire extinguisher to use as a weapon.
Airport security intervened after she also attacked security personnel from both Ibom Air and the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN).
Ms. Emmanson was restrained, taken into custody, and handed over to the police for investigation.
Ibom Air says Ms. Emmanson will no longer be allowed to fly on any of its aircraft and warned that unruly behaviour will face the strongest possible action.
