Political Parties and Candidates Sign Peace Pact Ahead of Anambra Guber Election

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has again assured that Saturday’s governorship election will be free and fair.

Chairman of the commission, Mahmood Yakabu told eligible voters not to be discouraged with the seeming threat of those who may want to subvert the exercise.

He said, the commission has met political parties and their candidates on the need to play the game by the rules.

Professor Yakubu called on the security agencies and other stakeholders to support INEC in having a successful election.

He commended the national peace committee for enriching good governance.

Meanwhile, the national peace committee insisted that the peace of Nigeria supersedes every political and individual interest.

Chairman of the committee, General Abdulsalam Abubakar gave the stand at the Dora Akunyili women development centre, Awka, venue, for the signing of peace pact by candidates for the Saturday’s governorship election.

General Abubakar was of the opinion that the signing of the peace accord is not a mere exercise but an avenue for candidates to commit themselves to good conduct before, during and after the election.

Other stakeholders who spoke agreed to ensuring political bitterness at the polls.
