Buhari warns against hooliganism as second phase of EndSARS protests kick off

Nigerian youths under the aegis of face of #EndSARS movement held a protest in Osogbo, Osun state capital today

The youths were led by a young man identified as Emmanuel Adebisi.

The protesters marched through the streets of Osogbo to the Osun state house of assembly and demanded an audience with the leadership of the assembly.

The protesters, however, noted that their actions were aimed at demanding good governance and not to destroy properties.

Meanwhile, President Muhammadu Buhari says his government will deal decisively with any act of hooliganism hiding behind peaceful protests

He said although his administration believed in the rights of citizens to embark on peaceful protests, such must be done responsibly.

Buhari stated this while virtually declaring open the chief of army staff’s annual conference 2020 from the presidential villa, Abuja.

Buhari said he regretted the violence that trailed the last protests.

In the meantime, armed policemen and soldiers have taken over the Lekki toll plaza, Lagos this morning, in what appears to be an attempt to forestall another round of #EndSARS protests.

Reports say the security operatives were deployed around midnight.

However, the police public relations officer, Muyiwa Adejobi, did not respond to calls this morning but the Lagos state police command had earlier warned against any planned protest in the state.
