US state faces another lockdown as Trump’s lawyer tests positive for COVID-19

Large parts of the US state of California are facing a strict new lockdown, as COVID-19 cases surge across the state and the country.

More than half of the state’s 40 million people will be subjected to a stay-at-home order, as announced by governor Gavin Newsom on Thursday.

many businesses will be closed, and people will be banned from meeting anyone outside their household.

The order was triggered as intensive care capacity in hospitals is shrinking.

Meanwhile, President Donald Trump’s personal lawyer, Rudy Giuliani, has tested positive for COVID-19 and is being treated in hospital.

Mr Giuliani, who has led the trump campaign’s legal challenges to the election results, is the latest person close to the president to be infected.

the president and his team have been criticised for shunning safety guidance.

US media reports say Mr Giuliani, 76, was admitted to the Medstar Georgetown university hospital in Washington DC on Sunday
