Report: Leaders in Okitipupa reflect on aftermath of EndSARS protests
Nigerian government and private institutions are still counting their loses after the EndSARS protests that enveloped major cities last month.
Apart from Lagos, one of the worst hit cities was Okitipupa community in the southern axis of Ondo state.
The question remains, how could a peaceful community like Okitipupa be so unlucky to become a center of attack.
Finding answers to this question and more took Aladesanmi Oyekanmi to the coastal town.
His Report: October the 22nd, 2020 will ever remain indelible in the history of Okitipupa, reason was not far fetished but the hovoc EndSARS protesters wrecked.
Even with the presence of a military base in the town, the protesters razed many instiutions.
My first pot of call was Okitipupa local government secretariat, where no single building was spared by the protesters.
Executive block, legislative building, NULGE union building, National Identity Card office, Mechanical workshop works department and other officers were burnt.
Aside buildings, utilities like Grader, School shuttle buses, as well as official vehicles were severely razed.
On ground to receive Adaba FM News Crew were top officials of the council which include the chairman, Mr. Ogbekele Akinrinwa, head of Local Government Administration, Mr. Babarinde and the information officer, Mr. Tayo Alademehin.
To the council boss, the protest was nothing but a calamity.
Mr. Igbekele Akinrinwa explained that both technical and administrative operations have paralysed.
Immediately after he spoke with Adaba FM, Mr. Akinrinwa, in company of other officials led the way to the palace of Jegun of Idepe in Okitipupa, Oba Michael Obatuga Adetoye.
The monarch said the incident was not in the interest of the community and raised the suspicion that the arsonists might not be Okitiputa indigenes.
Oba Michael Adetoye wants well meaning Nigerians to assist the community where necessary.
Other attacked institutions, the High court, Police station, Okitipupa office of the Board of internal revenue, office of the Nigeria security and civil defence corp, vehicle inspection office.
All these institutions would need special attentions from the government for them to function again.
