EndSARS protests continue in Nigeria’s major cities

Earlier today, protesters against police brutality, extortion, and extra-judicial killing gathered at the government secretariat in Agodi, Ibadan, Oyo state capital.

All adjoining roads to the secretariat were blocked as a result of the huge number of protesters.

The protesters demanded to be addressed by the state governor Seyi Makinde.

However, the deputy governor Rauf Olaniyan addressed the protesters and informed them that governor Makinde is currently in Ogbomoso.

In solidarity with the protesters, the deputy governor joined them to condemn police brutality and harassment.

Meanwhile, youth continued their protests at the Lagos state house of assembly over police brutality and extortion.

After about one hour, the governor of Lagos, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, arrived at the venue of the protest in Alausa.

Despite his pleas, the protesters insisted that their demands must be met before they can stop the protests.

The protests held simultaneously at the Lekki and Gbagada areas of the state.

In a related development, EndSARS protesters in Rivers state have stormed the streets of Port Harcourt, the state capital in defiance to Governor Nyesom Wike’s directive.

The youths who converged opposite the pleasure park at aba road began their procession carrying placards and chanting EndSARS.

They insisted that the governor had no right to ban peaceful protests.

Governor Nyesome Wike had issued an order prohibiting residents in rivers state from embarking on #EndSARS protest.

In borno state, civil society groups and residents took to the streets to kick against the dissolution of the police special anti-robbery squad, SARS.

The protesters say the dissolution was ill timed and called for its review.

They demanded the operation of SARS in response to the menacing insecurity and criminality in the state.
