Army cautions social media practitioners against fake news
The Nigerian army wants social media practitioners to abstain from fake news and unverified information capable of compromising the nation’s security and interest.
The chief of army staff, lieutenant general Tukur Buratai stated this at the opening of the social media influencers seminar on civil/military relations held in Osogbo, the Osun state capital.
Buratai said the Nigeria army is aware of the importance of social media and the need to take the advantage to train practitioners to address the issue of fake news.
The chief of army staff who was represented by the chief of planning and policy, lieutenant general Lamidi Adeosun hinted that the seminar was organized to breach the gap between the military and the citizens through the participants.
Buratai noted that the training is part of the corporate responsibility of the Nigerian army to achieve peace and stability.
While declaring the seminar open, Osun state governor Gboyega Oyetola noted that securing stability is a collaborative effort urging all and sundry to join hands in order to end the security challenges bedeviling the country
The seminar tagged ‘the evolving role of the social media in
support of the Nigerian army’s non-kinetic line of operations drew social media
influencers from across the state.
