Hotel killings: Hundreds of Women protest in Port Harcourt
Hundreds of women in the early hours of today have marched to the government house in Port Harcourt, protesting the killing of young women in hotels in Rivers state.
The women, who were clad in black attire, called for an end to the ugly trend.
They also stated that everybody, including prostitutes, deserve the right to life and should not be killed in such a gruesome manner.
At least, nine young women have been murdered in different hotels in Port Harcourt within the last two months.
Meanwhile, Rivers state police chief Mustapha Dandaura says a special task force – including the region’s police, hotel associations and tourism board – had been set up to improve security at hotels.
Dandaura said any hotel in the state that did not comply with new guidelines, which include installing CCTV cameras and asking guests for documentation when registering, would be closed down.
