Osun Govt Orders Closure of OSPOLY For Two-Week

Suspended rector of Osun state polytechnic in lree, Dr. Tajudeen Odetayo has officially returned to office as the rector of the institution following court interim injunction that status qou should be maintained pending ruling on the matter.

Dr. Odetayo was suspended on the 7th of July this year by the state government over yet to be investigated petition written against him by some members of management in the institution.

His suspension was trailed by reactions and protest by students and members of the institution’s chapter of Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics, ASUP who condemned the suspension and his replacement by Kehinde Alabi in acting capacity.

Dissatisfied by the suspension, Dr. Odetayo approached the industrial court and the court in its interim injunction ordered that status quo should be maintained pending determination of the matter.

Following the court order, Dr Odetayo resumed today to continue his tenure at the polytechnic and was received by academic and non academic staff and ASUP Executive back into the campus amidst jubilation.

While speaking on behalf of all academics in the institution chairman of Academic Staff Union of Polytechnic, Ezekiel Alabi, commended ASUP national chairman for standing up for the institution in upholding law of reasoning.

On his part, the rector Dr Tajudeen Odetayo appreciated the state governor, Ademola Adeleke for allowing the rule of law, which he is enjoying as a governor, to prevail on the matter.

In his reaction the acting rector Kehinde Alabi charged students and staff of the institution to remain calm as government is taking necessary steps to ensure peace return to the campus.

Meanwhile, the state government has ordered the closure of the institution for two weeks.

The government also froze the school accounts with immediate effect.

This is contained in a statement made available to newsmen by the commissioner for education in the state Dipo Eluwole.

The statement notes that the action is necessary in order to maintain peace in the Institution consequent upon the return of the suspended rector.
