VIDEO: Pandemonium as police tear gas protesters in Osun
There was pandemonium today at the state high court in Osogbo the Osun state capital as police disperse protesting judiciary staff union with tear gas.
The protesters as early 10am gathered at the state high court Okefia Osogbo protesting against their poor welfare amid heavy police presence and Chanting Solidarity songs.
Suddenly the police were seen firing tear gas to disperse them and also shooting directly at the protesters as people were running Helter-skelter for their lives
The union later converged at the customary court of appeal in Osogbo where they addressed newsmen.
In his address, the chairman of Judiciary staff Union of Nigeria in Osun state Gbenga Eludire said the JUSUN congress resolved on Monday to picketing the office of the chief judge on the grounds of members’ welfare and instructed the Chief judge justice Adepele Ojo to stay away from the high court premises.
Eludire said a committee set up by conference of judges however invited the union for a meeting to address issues of the staff welfare before the police allegedly lobbied the ousted CJ into the office hence the reason for their protest.
He therefore said they are embarking on an indefinite strike over assault on its members by the police insisting that the union will not backtrack in demanding it’s right.
The union is demanding reinstatement of all staff suspended by the CJ, regularizations and promotion of qualified staff, restoration and sponsorship of staff to The NJC training institute, wardrobe allowance arrears from 2021 till date among others.
