Osun Guber Election: 12 out of 15 candidates sign peace accord

12 out of the 15 candidates contesting the July 16 gubernatorial election in Osun state have signed a peace accord.

The peace accord which was facilitated by the national peace committee led by the bishop of the Catholic diocese of sokoto Matthew Kukah was held in Osogbo the Osun state capital.

In his speech the convener of national peace committee bishop Matthew Kukah noted that there is an urgent need for the nation to be fixed which can only be possible by voting in credible and thoughtful leaders calling on Nigerians to always come out and vote during election period.

Bishop Kukah said monetisation of political process in Nigerian is becoming worrisome and should be tackled by relevant stakeholders in order to engender true democracy and a sane society.

He enjoined all candidates and their supporters to play the game by the rule by eschewing violence or any act culpable of disrupting the peace and tranquility of the state.

In his remarks the chairman of Independent National Electoral Commission Mahmood reiterated the commission’s readiness and commitment to ensuring a credible ,free and free poll in the state.

Also speaking, the Ooni of Ife Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi noted that a nation can only thrive in a peaceful atmosphere, charging all political gladiators in the state to ensure that the forthcoming election is the most peaceful in the history of Nigerian.

Some of the candidates who signed the peace accord were Osun state governor Gboyega Oyetola of APC, Ademola Adeleke of PDP, Peter Awojide of AAC, Ademola Bayonle of YPP among others
