One killed, many injured as political thugs clash in Ekiti

Police in Ekiti State have confirmed the shooting between rival political parties at Itaji-Ekiti, Oye Local Government Area of Ekiti State at the early hours of this morning.

The shooting which reportedly left one person dead while several other injured was said to have occurred when SDP Candidate, Segun Oni paid a courtesy call on Onitaji of Itaji-Ekiti, Oba Adamo Babalola.

The hoodlums were said to have attacked the SDP Convoy with dangerous weapons as one of the political thugs was arrested by the people of the area.

Meanwhile, Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Sunday Abutu who confirmed the incident in a text message said there was a clash earlier around Itaji-Ekiti between opposition parties members at the early hours of today.

He added that investigation to unravel what transpired and the number of casualties as well as the possible arrest of culprits has commenced.

Abutu further said normalcy has since been restored to the area.
