India plans evacuation of diplomats from Afghanistan

India has decided to pull out its ambassador and all other diplomats from Afghanistan.

The foreign ministry said the diplomats will return home immediately.

This decision will temporarily end India’s diplomatic presence in Afghanistan.

Experts say this could make it difficult for people both Afghans and Indians who want to travel to India.

Meanwhile, the Taliban has declared a general amnesty for all government officials and urged them to return to work, two days after taking power following a lightning sweep through the country.

In the meantime, Iran’s foreign ministry has said that it’s embassy in Afghanistan remains completely open and operational.

In an interview with newsmen, ministry spokesman Saeed Khatibzadeh dismissed earlier media reports that only the embassies of Russia, China and Pakistan remain open.

He added that the Iranian consulate in Herat was also completely operational.

Iran revealed over the weekend that it had secretly closed three of its five consulates in Afghanistan and moved its diplomats to the embassy in Kabul.

Some diplomats have been recalled to Tehran.
