Labour sets for protest over minimum wage

Organized labour in Ekiti state has threatened to embark on industrial action from the first week of January 2021 should the state government fail to implement the new minimum wage.

The workers also called for the payment of six years outstanding deductions for local governments and subventions to institutions.

NLC chairman in the state, Kolapo Olatunde told Adaba FM that the union met the representatives of the state government on the matters.

He said workers would be mobilised to stage a protest next week.

Olatunde explained that the Labour Union asked that the agreed new minimum wage and consequential adjustment table should be sustained.

The NLC chairman called for the payment of arrears of promotion for 2017, 2018 and 2019, arrears of leave bonuses for 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019 and 2020.
