Attack on army base claims lives of soldiers in Mali

At least 29 Malian soldiers have lost their lives in an attack on an army base in the country’s northeast.

There was no immediate claim of responsibility for the attack which is the deadliest against the Malian army this year, in the town of Tarkint, north of the city of Gao.

The army had earlier said that just two soldiers had died but later informed that the death toll had evolved to 29 killed and five wounded.

Mali’s army has repeatedly suffered heavy casualties from armed groups active in the area with links to Al-qaeda and the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL OR ISIS).
